The president of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago and I co-hosted a podcast about sustainable living. It wasn’t my first go at audio — I’d done radio essays before that — but it was my first podcast. From 2007 to 2008, the show ran for a year and a half. We interviewed guests who made clothing from bamboo, raised grass-fed beef, advocated for darker night skies, and invented Freecycle. My co-host, Laurene von Klan, once went for an entire year without purchasing anything, and we talked about that, too. It was astonishing that she could pull it off.
If you want to listen to how that went for Laurene, here’s that episode.
